Fuelling Your Child’s Imagination!
In pre-school (3 - 5 years) our children are looking forward to starting school. A significant emphasis is placed on pre-school and Hermitage Nursery has a permanent primary teacher who works throughout the year. We pride ourselves on how happy, confident and enthusiastic learners the children become. Children learn through a combination of good role models, planned activities, investigation, play and first-hand experiences.

The pre-school room is a stimulating, happy room where the walls are decorated with colourful displays of children’s theme work. We have created a warm, inviting and relaxed atmosphere where your child will feel secure and happy.

The pre-school curriculum covers areas such as;

  • Knowledge and understanding of the world

  • Communication and language

  • Emotional, personal and social development

  • Physical development and movement

Weekly plans are displayed for viewing by staff and parents.

You will have the opportunity to have a one-to-one discussion with our Teacher to discuss your child’s progress and transition from Nursery to Primary School. This will normally take place in May and November of each year.

The pre-school children can, if parents wish (at an additional cost), join in the following extra curricular activities available during school term only;

  • Swimming Lessons

  • Music & Movement

Pre-School Funding is available to all our Pre-School children the term after their third birthday. We have been in partnership with Edinburgh City Council since January 2000.
